Himadri Speciality Chemicals has announced two new downstream projects to develop carbon nanotube (CNT) technology and super speciality carbon black (SSCB) to augment its fully integrated carbon black platform, with a cumulative investment of ₹240 crore. The carbon nanotube technology has been developed by Himadri’s R&D team inhouse. The CNT foray is backed by a capex of ₹70 crore; a 200 MTPA manufacturing facility is being developed, which is expected to be commissioned by Q4 of the current financial year.Once operational, it will position Himadri among a select group of global manufacturers serving this high-growth market. CNT is perceived as a next-generation material, with applications spanning across lithium-ion batteries, electronics, semiconductors, conductive films, sensors advanced composites, coatings, construction and aerospace.Himadri is also advancing its entry into premium speciality applications through Super Speciality Carbon Black (SSCB), leveraging its fully integrated carbon black platform. About 6,000 tonnes per annum would be converted from its existing carbon black stream. The venture into SSCB is backed by a capex of about ₹170 crore and is expected to be commissioned by Q4FY28.SSCB is expected to deliver significantly higher value realisation across niche applications such as lithium-ion batteries, engineered plastic, fabrics, fibres, coating and conductive black.Anurag Choudhary, Chairman and CEO, Himadri Speciality Chemicals, said the new energy materials business aligns with the global energy transition, as lithium-ion battery consumption is projected to rise from around 1.6 terawatt-hours in 2025 to nearly 6.8 terawatt-hours by 2035.In the June quarter, the company reported a 27 per cent increase in net profit at ₹228 crore (₹179 core), while revenue jumped 28 per cent to ₹1,432 crore (₹1,118 crore).Himadri expects additional revenue of ₹30,000 crore over the next five years on the back of the new expansions, with a projected net profit of ₹1,100 crore in FY28, said the company.Published on July 20, 2026
