The two models are both political and ineffective, to be sure, but they are not created equal, and they do not resonate with the Benue people in the same way.
There are two ways to politicize a violent crisis. In Benue State the current governor and his predecessor embody the two models of crisis political profiteering.
One way is to wail repeatedly about the problem without solvingit. That was the Samuel Ortom way. The wailing, choregraphed, theatrical, and sometimes even comical, was the point and itserved a political purpose.
The second way is to deny that there is even a crisis of insecurity, or to minimize what's going on. That's the GovernorHyacinth Alia way. Like the Ortom model, it is designed to benefit Alia politically.
Both approaches cynically politicize the mass murder of Benue citizens without the governors doing what's within their power to solve the problem or to empower the people defeat the terrorists.
