New search data suggests demand for "active tourism" is soaring, with running holidays – or "runcations" – emerging as one of the fastest-growing travel trends.
Whether it's mountain trails in the Dolomites or coastal paths in Madeira, more holidaymakers are lacing up their trainers in search of a different kind of getaway.
Experts at CamperDays, a campervan and motorhome tour operator, have revealed that a rising number of travellers are opting for holidays packed full of movement, rather than the traditional “fly and flop” trip.
The data showed that, over the last month, searches for active tourism have increased by some 5,000%, with searches for trail running particularly strong – up 20% versus the same period last year.
