Lionel Scaloni's Argentina contract expires in December and he's indicated he could yet depart his role after failing to guide his team a second consecutive World Cup01:12, 20 Jul 2026Lionel Scaloni has hinted he could quit his role as Argentina head coach upon the expiry of his contract later this year.‌The 48-year-old, who has guided La Albiceleste to two Copa Americas, one World Cup and La Finalissima since taking up the role in 2018, has a deal which runs until December.‌While Scaloni will speak to the Argentinian Football Association regarding fresh terms, he insists there is a chance he could call time on his illustrious spell at the helm.‌He said during an emotional post-match press conference: "I haven't spoken with Leo [Messi]. As for me, I'm going to talk to the president. I have an idea of what I want to do."I'll fulfil the contract and then we'll see. The truth is, I feel the need to think, because I don't know if I'll be able to do something as big as this."Maybe we'll have to talk. I'm grateful to the president for giving me an opportunity like this, for being in this position," before he broke down in tears.‌He then continued: "Being in the place I am, a dream come true for everyone. We tried until the very last moment to give our all as a coaching staff and as players. It's only right that I can take this time to think about it.
