New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo said he’s “perfectly fine” after a perilous landing on his freshly healed right leg following an attempted backflip on the Fanatics Fest stage in New York.A clip of the second-year ball carrier awkwardly falling and landing dangerously after attempting the flip went viral Saturday night. On Sunday, Skattebo, speaking at another Fanatics Fest event, assured fans that he was OK.“I’m gonna address the elephant,” he said while sitting next to Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart. “I will not hurt myself before the season.”Before attempting the flip on Saturday, Skattebo pulled up his pants to show his right leg, where he suffered a fractured fibula, ruptured deltoid ligament and dislocated ankle in a Week 8 injury that ended his rookie season. He said the floor was bouncy and he did not anticipate how much it would give, which led to the treacherous landing.Dart joked it was “the most explosive I’ve seen Skatt.”While Dart might have been impressed, the clip likely raised the blood pressures of Giants fans and coaches who are hoping to have Skattebo back on the field this year. The former Arizona State standout’s rookie season was limited to just eight games due to injuries. He tallied 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns along with 207 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 2025 before suffering the season-ending injury against the Philadelphia Eagles. This isn’t the first time Skattebo’s off-field activities have drawn scrutiny.Last November, he was the subject of criticism for appearing on “Monday Night Raw” with some of his teammates shortly after the Week 8 injury.Skattebo defended that appearance, saying: “I’m not able to play football and have the fun I’ve been having my whole life, so I am doing things outside the box trying to find stuff to keep me happy.”In March, he apologized for “a tasteless joke” he made on a podcast when he suggested that chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the degenerative brain disease known as CTE, was not real.On Sunday, he said he had no plans to change his behavior.“I’m just gonna keep being me, “ Skattebo said. “If they wanna say I’m braindead and I don’t have no brain, then who cares? F— it.”Jul 19, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern. Connect the termsFind the hidden link between sports terms
