LAOGA CITY — Hundreds of persons with disabilities (PWDs), their families, advocates and government agencies gathered here on Sunday for a fun run and walk to promote inclusivity and physical fitness in celebration of National Disability Rights Week.
Richard Ramos Jr., president of the Laoag City Federation of PWDs, said the Lakad/Takbo sa Komunidad Tungo sa Pagkakaisa highlights the importance of creating inclusive communities where PWDs can actively participate in sports, education, employment, and other aspects of public life without discrimination.
“We are here to show that there is unity and inclusivity among us,” he said, citing that proceeds raised from the registration fees of around 600 participants will fund activities to promote the rights and welfare of PWDs.
