New BBC series The Hairdresser Mysteries launched on Friday and it is just like Beyond Paradise18:41, 19 Jul 2026Updated 18:42, 19 Jul 2026The Hairdresser Mysteries series made its highly-anticipated debut on Friday.The new six-part detective drama dropped on BBC iPlayer in its entirety last week, while episodes will also air weekly on Fridays at 2pm on BBC One.The drama, written by Jim Cartwright, centres on Lily Petal, portrayed by Sally Phillips, a modern-day hairdresser with an insatiable love for all things 1970s, who leaves behind her successful career at a chic London salon to embrace life in a humble shop within a peaceful northern market town.However, Lily's quiet life is short-lived as murders begin happening virtually on her doorstep, forcing her to turn amateur detective with the help of her gifted assistant Clary, portrayed by Charlotte Jordan.The duo receive additional support from Wincey, the town's notorious gossip, portrayed by Sunetra Sarker, and keen Police Constable Adam, portrayed by Ben Castle-Gibb, as they pursue their tireless investigations.Additional characters include Lonnie, the theatrical manager of the local charity shop, portrayed by Clive Rowe, and Race Runard, the local village's eccentric antiques dealer with a penchant for priceless teacup and saucer sets, portrayed by Guy Henry.As viewers get hooked on the new drama, many show watchers have been wondering where the show was filmed.
