July 19 (UPI) -- Singer Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon -- known for his songs "Palisades Park" and "Tallahassee Lassie" -- has died at the age of 89.

His representative told Variety he died in a California hospice facility after recently being diagnosed with cancer.

Deadline.com, which also confirmed Cannon's death, said the "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans," "Abigail Beecher," "Action" and "Let's Put the Fun Back in Rock N Roll" artist appeared on Dick Clark's music-theme show, American Bandstand, more than 100 times.

In recent years, he was a beloved guest on the Svengoolie classic horror TV programming block.
