The Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has explained why he withdrew his petition challenging the outcome of the poll, saying his decision was guided by statesmanship and the broader national interest.
Oluyede also declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, urging political stakeholders not to underestimate the importance of grassroots mobilisation ahead of the presidential election.
The PDP candidate said the June 20 governorship election offered important lessons that should guide political strategists and stakeholders preparing for the 2027 general elections.
He described the election as one that “was not merely about who won or lost, but exposed changing dynamics in voter participation, grassroots mobilisation, political loyalty and the danger of taking the electorate for granted.”
Oluyede spoke in a statement titled, “Ekiti 2026: The Election That Should Keep 2027 Political Strategists Awake,” made available in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.
