Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the World’s largest curd production plant under the Amul Bengal Dairy Project, on Sunday said West Bengal is currently witnessing a new era of growth under the new BJP government in the State.After virtually laying the foundation stone for the ₹700-crore Amul project at Sankrail in Howrah district, Shah said the transformation Bengal witnessed is unlike any political change seen elsewhere since Independence.The Amul Bengal Dairy Project will process around 30 lakh litres of milk and produce 10 lakh kilograms of curd and other cultured dairy products per day. More than 1.25 lakh milk-producing farmers in West Bengal, including over 30,000 women milk producers, are expected to benefit from the project. Amul has plans to set up two more plants in the State to produce ice cream.“Today, following the victory in the Bengal elections, I have come here on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sweeten the mouths of people of Bengal with ‘Mishti Doi’. The transformation brought about by the people of Bengal is distinct from any other state assembly election held since Independence. Bengal was once a beacon of light for every sector of the nation... Yet, for a long time, the State remained under the rule of a Communist govt influenced by foreign ideologies. Upon breaking free from that, it fell into the clutches of the Trinamool Congress, which is devoid of ideology, and corrupt,” the Union Minister said.Claiming that the BJP government in the State has revived the aspiration of “Sonar Bangla”, Shah said, “After a decade-long struggle and responding to Prime Minister Modi’s call, the movement for Sonar Bangla has begun again under the leadership of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.”“There were people who used to say they would not allow Bengal to become Gujarat. Today, they are sitting at home watching on television that Gujarat’s Amul is investing ₹700 crore for the development of West Bengal,” said Suvendu Adhikari during the event.growing confidenceThe Chief Minister said the investment reflected growing confidence among industries after the change of government and reaffirmed the State’s commitment to attracting private investment.Earlier, Amit Shah inaugurated the “Museum of Word” at the National Library campus in Kolkata and said a country’s language carries its heritage and offers a window into its culture.Developed by the National Library under the aegis of the Union Culture Ministry, India’s first immersive language museum, also known as Shabdalok, celebrates the country’s rich linguistic heritage and showcases the evolution of its oral and written traditions through interactive and technology-driven exhibits.Published on July 19, 2026
