ALBAWABA - The U.S. Embassy in Amman posted on Facebook a security alert claiming that Jordanian authorities evacuated the international airport and seaport in Aqaba, Reuters reported Sunday.In a statement on Facebook, the U.S. Embassy wrote, "Due to a specific and credible threat, Jordanian authorities evacuated the international airport and seaport in Aqaba. We strongly advise all Americans to refrain traveling to either the airport or seaport. Continue to follow all Jordanian authorities’ security directives."It added, "U.S. Embassy Amman continues to advise all Americans to avoid travel to military bases in Jordan."However, sources confirmed to Al-Mamlaka TV on Sunday that reports of the evacuation or closure of King Hussein International Airport and the seaport in Aqaba Governorate were false.They stated that the airport and port in Aqaba Governorate are operating normally and without interruption.In addition, the Director General of Aqaba Ports Management and Operation Company, Mahmoud Khleifat, told Al-Mamlaka that "there is no suspension of any of the handling operations at the port," adding that work at the seaport is proceeding normally, and there is no evacuation or work stoppage at the port.
