Abdulqader Al Tahhan has been appointed head of Syria's General Intelligence Directorate by President Ahmad Al Shara.
The reshuffle includes Anas Khattab as director of the National Security Office, while retaining his role as Interior Minister.
Mr Al Tahhan, born in Aleppo in 1980, played a key role in the rebel offensive that ousted former president Bashar Al Assad in December 2024.
He founded a rebel battalion in northern Aleppo province during Syria's civil war, earning the nom de guerre Abu Billal Al Quds.
