Thousands of Facebook users reported problems accessing the platform on Sunday morning, with many encountering an error message stating that their accounts were “temporarily unavailable” due to a site issue.
Users attempting to access the desktop version of Facebook were greeted with the message: “Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”
Outage-tracking platform Downdetector recorded a sharp increase in reports shortly before 9 am, with many users searching for “Facebook down” as the issue appeared to affect the platform’s web version. Reports indicated that website access accounted for 32 per cent of complaints, followed by login issues at 26 per cent and problems with the news feed or timeline at 22 per cent.
Several users also took to X to report the disruption.
