England legend Roger Hunt's 1966 World Cup shirt has sold at auction for £11,000. The white long-sleeve number 21 jersey was worn by the striker during a group match against France on July 20 1966 where he scored both goals in a 2-0 win.Hunt was part of England's 1966 squad that went on to lift the World Cup after beating West Germany 4-2 at Wembley Stadium. The signed shirt went under the hammer at Henry Aldridge & Son auctioneers in Devizes, Wiltshire, yesterday, and with auctioneers costs sold for £14,300.Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said: 'Although England couldn't end the 60 years of hurt this week we were delighted to auction 1966 hero Roger Hunt’s match used shirt from the France group game where he scored twice. 'It sold for over £14000 and represents a truly tangible link to the last time England won the World Cup.Hunt won 34 caps for England, scoring 18 international goals for his country and he played in every game during the 1966 campaign, scoring three times to help England out of the group stages. The forward spent the majority of his professional career playing for Liverpool where he was the club's top goal scorer with 285 goals until he was overtaken by Ian Rush in 1992. The shirt was sold by Derbyshire-based Hansons Auctioneers and had an initial guide price of £50,000-£80,000.
