Some members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have petitioned the party leadership, demanding clarification over the outcome of the party's primary election for the Alimosho Constituency in Lagos State, amid allegations that the declared candidate did not emerge as the winner of the exercise.
The aggrieved party faithfuls, who described themselves as concerned members committed to democracy, transparency and accountability, alleged that the aspirant who reportedly secured 634 votes during the primary election was not presented as the party's candidate, while another contestant who allegedly polled only six votes was eventually nominated.
In a formal petition addressed to the party leadership, dated July 18, a copy of which SaharaReporters sighted, the members said if the reports surrounding the primary election were accurate, they raised "serious concerns about the integrity of the party's internal democratic processes."
"We write as concerned members and supporters who believe in the ideals of democracy, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law," the petition stated.
