The South African Police Service (SAPS) has opened an inquest following a fatal house fire in Yeoville that claimed the life of a 35-year-old man.
Emergency services, including the Fire Brigade and Emergency Medical Services, responded to the blaze at about 4.30am on Thursday, July 16.
After firefighters extinguished the fire, the body of the victim, identified as Romeo Katompa, was found beneath the collapsed roof of the house.
Police said the body was removed after the necessary forensic processes had been completed and taken to the Government Mortuary.
Preliminary investigations and witness statements indicate that Katompa was inside the house when the fire broke out and was unable to escape.
