Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu produced a vintage display of attacking badminton to outclass local favourite Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 and clinch her maiden Super 750 title at the Japan Open in Tokyo on Sunday.The victory marks Sindhu's first Japan Open title and her maiden Super 750 crown. It also comes after the 31-year-old reached her first final in more than two years on Saturday, following the retirement of Tokyo Olympics champion Chen Yufei of China during their semifinal.Sindhu was leading 21-19, 15-10 when world No. 4 Chen was forced to retire with a hamstring injury, sending the Indian into the title clash.The Japan Open triumph is Sindhu's first title since winning the Syed Modi International in Lucknow in 2024. She had also finished runner-up at the Malaysia Open Super 500 earlier that year. Her last major title before this was the Singapore Open Super 500 in 2022.
