Three weeks after a bomb went off in the entrance of a Monaco apartment building, the case has moved from an unsolved attempted murder to an investigation implicating Ukraine's own military intelligence service, after the woman suspected of planting the device was found murdered and buried outside Kyiv. The businessman she is accused of targeting has since formally accused Ukrainian intelligence officers of trying to kill him and his family.
At around 21:00 on June 29, an explosive device detonated in the lobby of a residential building in Monaco as three members of one family entered. French and Ukrainian media identified the victims as Vadym Yermolaiev, a sanctioned Ukrainian-born businessman, his partner and their 13-year-old son. Yermolaiev suffered burns and shrapnel wounds; his partner lost both legs. Monaco's prosecutor's office classified the case as attempted murder and said the attacker likely did not act alone.
On July 3, Interpol issued a red notice for Anastasiia Berezovska, a 39-year-old Ukrainian citizen accused of disguising herself as a man to plant the device, then fleeing through France, Italy and Germany before crossing back into Ukraine on July 1 through a regular, lawful border crossing. Ukrainian border officials said no Interpol alert existed for her at the time she entered.
