The Oyo State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected armed robber who allegedly attacked and dispossessed a commercial motorcyclist, identified as Muhammadu Kamilu, of his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday and made available to journalists in Ibadan.
Ayanlade said the suspect, who allegedly disguised as a passenger, attacked the motorcyclist with an iron hammer along Adeniji Estate, Apata, Ibadan, on Wednesday, July 16, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m.
According to the police spokesperson, operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit acted on actionable intelligence and immediately mobilised to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect, Shafiu Nuhu, and the recovery of the stolen Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number AJW 842 QU, as well as the iron hammer allegedly used in the attack.
He added that the suspect had confessed to operating as a lone armed robber specialising in attacking and robbing commercial motorcyclists in Ibadan and its environs. He said investigations were ongoing to determine his possible involvement in other similar criminal activities and to recover any additional exhibits connected to his operations.
