AS cryptocurrency adoption accelerates in South Africa, industry leaders are warning new investors against the pitfalls of emotional trading, social media hype, and a lack of due diligence.

With digital assets gaining significant traction among local investors, many are entering the market with enthusiasm but insufficient knowledge. To help the public navigate the risks and opportunities within the crypto ecosystem, the Sunday Independent spoke with Sebaga Manyeula, chief executive of Indexa South Africa.

Manyeula, an FSCA-approved key individual, European Money Awards nominee, and recognised FinTech and digital assets thought leader, identified emotional decision-making as the primary trap for newcomers.

“Without question, emotional investing,” Manyeula said. “Many people buy because they fear missing out when prices are rising and then panic when markets correct. Cryptocurrency is a volatile asset class, and volatility should never dictate your investment decisions.”
