An Aussie man has been detained by ICE after he was tackled to the ground and handcuffed in Las Vegas airport. A video circulating on social media captures the distressed man pinned to the ground during the attempted arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents with the man yelling: “I don’t know … I don’t know what they’re doing”.A bystander to the incident can be heard asking, “What’s going on?” before one of the plainclothes agents, wearing a backpack, appears to swing him an arm toward the camera. Shortly after, an airport employee appears to step in, positioning himself between the bystander and the partially handcuffed man. The situation ends abruptly as the two officers walk away, abandoning the man while he is still left with a handcuff on. The incident took place in terminal 3 of Harry Reid International Airport, with NBC News identifying the man as 57-year-old Phu Nguyen. The Department of Homeland Security has since confirmed the attempted arrest was made on July 13 before the man attempted to fly to LA. “On July 13, ICE attempted to arrest Phu Nguyen, an illegal alien who is an illegal alien and citizen of Australia and was born in Vietnam, at the Las Vegas Airport,” a statement read. “As officers attempted to arrest Nguyen, a crowd of anti-ICE agitators surrounded officers.”The DHS claims Mr Ngyuen entered the United States legally on a visa in May 2013 and had permission to remain until May 2015. “Nguyen refused to depart in violation of our nation’s laws,” the statement read. “He will receive full due process and remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of his removal proceedings.”Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was making urgent enquiries following the reports.
