True to their word, NZ Warriors have bounced back from an early-season setback to overpower North Queensland Cowboys 42-4 at Auckland's Go Media Stadium.Smashed by injuries and stung by their failings, the wāhine fell to a heavy defeat in Canberra the previous week and pledged to do better moving forward.Back on home turf, they were far more clinical, even with a limited roster to choose from, playing far closer to their physical brand.Wing Lavinia Tauhalaliku, who missed the trip to the Aussie capital with concussion, returned for four tries, while sevens superstar Stacey Waaka grabbed a pair, as the Warriors victimised the Cowboys right edge. They scored first, taking advantage of a penalty off their first set, before captain Apii Nicholls kicked to the tryline, Cowboys centre Haylee Hifo fumbled the recovery and Tauhalaliku forced cleanly for her third try of the season. While the Warriors had been guilty of early ill discipline and errors in their first two outings of the season, this time their winless opponents were committing the mistakes that leaked pressure whenever they looked dangerous.Hifo contributed to the second try, when she could not field another high kick near the line and centre Waaka pounced on the loose ball. With half-time looming, second-rower Ivana Lauitiiti kicked down the front, powering over between the posts, as the home side led 14-0 at the break.Former Australian rugby international Jasmin Huriwai was next to score, when she chased a kick from halfback Patricia Maliepo and gathered the bounce for her first NRLW try.The Warriors dodged a bullet, when Cowboys wing Francesca Goldthorp was held up over the tryline.Waaka had her second try, when she sent Tauhalaliku clear over halfway and kept running in support for the return pass.Rookie, Ocean Tierney, continued her hot form, after front-rower Harata Butler offloaded near the line and fast hands put the right wing over in the corner.Tauhalaliku brought up her second try double of the season off a disjointed shift along the backline that included a fumbled pass backwards and a lineball last delivery. The Cowboys finally found the scoreboard with eight minutes remaining, when Goldthorp gathered a kick and snuck inside the corner flag.Tauhalaliku would not be denied her hat-trick and then grabbed a fourth, when she kept the ball alive on the last tackle and stayed in attendance for a return pass from Waaka.Maliepo missed the conversion after the full-time siren, but the Warriors had equalled their biggest winning NRLW margin.Follow the live action here:
