The family of a young Sikh mother who was stabbed to death as she slept in bed with her husband and newborn baby have said they are shocked by the 'hooliganism and violence' in the UK. Kirandeep Kaur, 24, was allegedly attacked by a stranger who had broken into her home in Hayes, west London, shortly before 8am on July 12.She suffered a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead less than half an hour later. Ms Kaur, who was from India, had been living in the UK since 2024 on a student visa.Her devastated mother, Baljeet Kaur, said she thought she had sent her daughter somewhere 'safe to study'. 'We didn't realise hooliganism and violence is happening [in the UK] too,' she told ITV. 'We want justice, we want our daughter's body returned from Hayes.' We were shocked, we don't understand what we can do.'Her family have now called for her body to be repatriated so she can be laid to rest in her home village of Piddi, in Punjab's Tarn Taran district. A GoFundMe page has been set up by the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall Gurdwara to help raise money for Ms Kaur's funeral arrangements. Daniel Sean James, 46, has been charged with murder and he appeared at the Old Bailey on Thursday. He is also accused of stabbing a man in his 20s, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, before the alleged attack on Ms Kaur. The court was told both victims were complete strangers to the defendant.Judge Nigel Lickley KC set a plea hearing for October 1 and a provisional three-week trial from April 5 next year.James spoke only to confirm his identity and was remanded into custody.
