Miami, US, Jul 17 (EFE).- The United States Armed Forces launched a new wave of attacks against Iran on Friday, marking a full week of uninterrupted offensive operations against the Islamic Republic, according to the US Central Command (Centcom). “CENTCOM launched a round of strikes against Iran at 3 p.m. ET today for the seventh consecutive night. The strikes are designed to continue degrading Iranian military capabilities at the Commander in Chief’s direction (President Donald Trump),” the Central Command stated on X. The attacks reflect the escalation of the conflict since President Donald Trump announced last week the cancellation of the memorandum of understanding signed on June 18, following Iran’s persistent attacks on ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz. The attacks on the sea lane, through which one-fifth of the world’s crude oil flowed before the conflict began on February 28, have driven up the price of West Texas Intermediate crude, which rose 4.48% on Friday to $82.49 per barrel, marking a 14.7% increase for the week. Although CENTCOM did not immediately specify the targets of its latest attacks, hours earlier it reported having destroyed a watchtower that Iranian forces were using to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iran claimed to have attacked and destroyed US military targets in the Al Tanf area of Syria and in Qatar, including a radar system and several tanker aircraft, as well as having killed several US military personnel, which Washington denied hours later. In addition, the United States reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports and ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday and has redirected four commercial vessels, disabled one, and boarded one to ensure full compliance, according to a statement released Friday by CENTCOM. Iran has condemned the US attacks on its territory at the United Nations, asserting that the bombings of civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law and constitute war crimes.
