July 17 (UPI) -- Irish actor Brenda Fricker has died at age 81, BBC and USA Today confirmed Friday. Fricker's agent Phil Belfield, confirmed in a statement to both outlets.
USA Today included that Fricker's death Thursday followed "a period of ill health."
Fricker won an Oscar for her supporting role as Christy Brown's mother in My Left Foot, which also won Daniel Day-Lewis an Oscar for playing Christy. Fricker had already been on screen for 25 years by that point on British television, including Quatermass and Irish soap opera Tolka Row.
The 1990s brought more American films, including the role of a homeless woman Kevin McCallister (Macauley Culkin) meets in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. She also played Mike Myers' mother in So I Married an Axe Murderer (Myers also played his father), a foster mother in the 1994 Angels in the Outfield remake, and a legal secretary in A Time to Kill.
She continued to work in British film and television such as Rory O'Shea Was Here, Albert Nobbs and The Catch. Her last credit was 2024's The Swallow.
