Ederson has signed a contract extension with Atalanta after his proposed move to Manchester United was abandoned earlier this week.The midfielder had been entering the final year of his previous deal, which was set to expire in 2027.The Athletic reported on June 2 that United had agreed a deal worth €40.5m ($46.3; £34.54m) plus add-ons for the 27-year-old and personal terms had been finalised.The midfielder had his first set of tests in the United States in early July but it was not until a second round of medical examinations took place in England on Tuesday, July 7 — following Brazil’s exit from the World Cup — that United decided against proceeding with the transfer at the numbers agreed.

It was only once United were sure of signing him from Villa, ahead of competitors, that they confirmed their stance on the Serie A midfielder.Ederson first joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022 and has made 180 appearances in his four seasons at the Italian club, in addition to five appearances for Brazil. He was part of the side that beat Bayer Leverkusen to win the Europa League in 2024.
