July 17 (UPI) -- Fallout 5 and a new Fallout game with Obsidian Entertainment were confirmed Friday as part of Bethesda Game Studios' long-term roadmap.

The studio gave an update following layoffs and other shakeups at Microsoft's Xbox earlier this month. Microsoft acquired Bethesda's parent company, ZeniMax Media, in 2021.

Bethesda announced Fallout 5, the long-anticipated sequel to Fallout 4 (2015), is in preproduction on Creation Engine 3, the same platform it is using to develop The Elder Scrolls VI.

It is also planning a new Fallout 76 expansion, Raven Rock, that serves as a prequel to Fallout 3 (2008), along with "multiple" other projects, including remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

In addition, Bethesda is re-teaming with Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment on a new project in the Fallout universe.
