SportFootballDidier DeschampsEngland will take on France in the 2026 World Cup bronze medal final in Miami after semi final defeats to Argentina and Spain but it appears that Didier Deschamps is still taking the game seriously17:17, 17 Jul 2026France stars have seen a request for a night out ahead of their clash with England turned down by boss Didier Deschamps. The two teams come together on Saturday in Miami in the World Cup bronze medal final following semi-final defeats.‌Beaten 2022 finalists France were brushed aside by Spain, while England suffered late heartbreak against Argentina. The game also represents a significant one for Deschamps as he oversees his last match in charge of Les Bleus ahead of officially handing the reins over to Zinedine Zidane.‌And it appears that he is taking it as seriously as ever. According to L’Equipe, a number of players wanted a free evening on Thursday in an attempt to clear their heads following their bruising defeat to Spain.‌Some stars had even attempted to negotiate a midnight curfew, but Deschamps has turned down both ideas as he does not want their World Cup to end with back-to-back defeats. It is also suggested that some France staff are sceptical about some dismissive attitudes regarding the game within the England camp.Speaking after his side’s defeat to Spain, Deschamps said: “The disappointment is commensurate with our ambitions, even if we also have to be factual, we have to accept it, there’s no other choice.“But we came up against a very good Spanish team who raised their game. Was it them, or were we simply a little below par? We didn’t achieve the result we wanted, the result we expected, the result we aimed for.‌“We have this duty towards ourselves, towards what this jersey represents, towards all the people who are behind us and who have been so excited. There are obviously many disappointed people, but there is a match. It’s not a friendly match. Okay, it’s not going to change their lives, but all the players must have this duty.”England boss Thomas Tuchel has already given his view on the game and while he has suggested that it’s a match that the squad would rather not play, they will approach it professionally.Article continues belowHe said: “None of our players and none of the French players want to play this match. They want to play the final. We gave everything to achieve that. Everyone plays to win the World Cup, but that’s how it is. We have one less day of recovery than France but we will do it with professionalism.”Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
