Rachael Robertson: Hey everybody! Welcome to MedPod Today, the podcast series where MedPage Today reporters share deeper insight into the week's biggest healthcare stories. I'm your host Rachael Robertson.

Today we're talking with Kristina Fiore about her story on how some eye specialists have flagged concerns about pricey lenses in cataract surgery. Then Cheryl Clark will detail how the Trump administration wants to add its own checkpoint in federal grant approvals. To close out, Joyce Frieden will fill us in on the CDC director nominee's hearing.

Some 4 million cataract surgeries are performed each year in the U.S. and in some of those procedures, patients are pitched newer, expensive lens implants that they may not be a great candidate for. They can end up very unhappy with the results. Kristina Fiore is here to tell us more.

So, Kristina, can you tell us about how you heard about this story?
