US President Donald Trump announced in a speech on Thursday evening, July 16, that the United States had been forced to deploy military force against the Islamic Republic.
Referring to US military operations against the Iranian regime, Trump stated, without providing specific details, that the results of the action would become apparent “very soon.” Emphasising American military capabilities, he asserted that the country was positioned to defend its interests and those of its allies. In another part of his address, the US President credited his administration with elevating America’s global power and stature, claiming that the United States is now more secure and powerful than ever before.
This announcement by President Trump marks a critical transition from retaliatory border skirmishes to direct, overt US military operations against Iranian targets. The escalation directly follows Iran’s recent missile strikes on Qatar, which targeted the vicinity of the major US military hub at Al Udeid Air Base, and the resumption of the US naval blockade on Iranian oil tankers.
With the temporary bilateral freeze now completely dismantled, Trump’s declaration of “forced” military action signals that Washington has abandoned containment in favour of directly degrading Iran’s military infrastructure, severely raising the stakes for the new supreme leadership in Tehran.
