CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has asked the Cebu City Council to allow the cutting of 67 trees and the relocation of 46 others to make way for a major flood mitigation project along the Butuanon River in Barangay Bacayan.

The request now awaits action from the City Council after the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) endorsed its inspection report to the council through the Committee on Environment, chaired by Councilor Joel Garganera.

The matter has been included in the council’s July 21 agenda.

If approved, the council will issue a resolution expressing no objection to the tree-cutting application, a requirement before the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) can process the necessary permit.
