The AIADMK on Friday called for a probe by the Central Bureau of Invesitgation (CBI) into alleged horse-trading by the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). After presenting a petition to Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, the AIADMK’s Member of Parliament and secretary of the advocates’ wing I.S. Inbadurai, accompanied by the party’s agricultural wing secretary and whip in the Assembly ‘Agri’ S.S. Krishnamurthy, told reporters that if the present government was indeed a pure force, as the ruling party claimed itself to be, it should hand over the case to the CBI. Already, the police had been investigating another alleged case of horse trading in which a legislator of the TVK was offered ₹35 crore to vote against the ruling party in the House. Mr. Inbadurai contended no action had been taken against the petitions presented by his party including one given at the office of Director of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), which, he said, should have conducted a “preliminary enquiry”. Even that was not done. This was why he and his colleague had come to meet the DGP and submit one more representation. Mr. Krishnamurthy claimed that there was “no intra-party power struggle” in the party. The general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami had been, in consultation with the party functionaries, reviewing the organisation’s constituency-wise performance. No office bearers and volunteers had left the party but only six MLAs, who were “purchased” by the TVK, had crossed over, the party’s whip added. Published - July 17, 2026 07:55 pm IST
