The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that, in the early hours of Friday, July 17, it targeted a US Special Operations command centre in the Al-Tanf region of Syria. The IRGC claimed that the assault was launched in retaliation for the recent killing of several of its forces in Iranshahr, Iran.
The IRGC statement claimed that a radar system, multiple helicopters, and several US personnel were destroyed in the strike. Reuters reported that it has not yet been able to independently verify these claims.
Furthermore, the IRGC declared that the Islamic Republic maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz and warned that it would block the transit and export of oil and gas shipments through the strategic waterway for as long as US attacks continue.
