Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology between 2000 and 2007, Prof. Turner Timinepre Isoun.

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed sadness over the passing of former Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Turner Timinepre Isoun, who served between 2000 and 2007.

Governor Diri, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, on Friday, described the late Professor of Veterinary Medicine as an academic colossus whose contributions to scholarship and national development were outstanding and immeasurable.

Describing his death as a huge loss to the country, Bayelsa State and the Ijaw nation, the governor recalled Isoun’s pioneering role as the first Vice-Chancellor of the then University of Science and Technology, now Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, in the old Rivers State.

He said Isoun laid the solid foundation for the country’s first university of science and technology and went on to drive an ICT revolution during his tenure as Minister of Science and Technology.
