Though he has come under fire in the past for his swashbuckling, aggressive approach to batting, Proteas prodigy Dewald Brevis believes it is crucial to keep playing the way that comes naturally to him.
"I think it's for me just very important to always be Dewald, because I think we've got a team full of amazing individuals that form the team, and everyone is unique in their own way,” Brevis told IOL in an exclusive interview following the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards in Sandton. “We all just need to be ourselves and just play the way we do, and that's how we'll all reach the top.”
Brevis walked away with the Proteas Newcomer of the Year accolade at the event, marking a significant milestone in the 23-year-old’s burgeoning career.
Despite his youth, Brevis is no longer the youngest face in the national setup. The next generation is already pushing through, with 20-year-olds Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Kwena Maphaka also tasting success on the international stage.
