Everybody got their name tags?Picking a favorite NFL team to back in the sportsbooks has always been tough, but this season there are 10 new head coaches, 21 new offensive coordinators and 16 new defensive coordinators. It only adds to the unpredictability of a league that has seen at least one team go from worst to first in its division in 20 of the past 23 years. The Bears and Patriots did it last season, and the Saints (and maybe the Lions) seemed poised to pull it off this season.Speaking of cellar dwellers, I love the Cardinals this season. To win their division? God, no. I don’t know whether they can win even one of six games against the monsters in the NFC West. But I think there is some talent on that roster, and I am intrigued by the new coaching staff. I have circled them to top last year’s win total (three) and cash in at over 3.5.Is it a best bet? No, I am not a sicko … but I just wanted to get that off my chest before we go any further. The most-bet overs, according to BetMGM, are the Giants, Vikings, Raiders and Broncos, while the popular under teams are the Dolphins, Cardinals (gasp), Patriots and Bears. We don’t agree with most of that, after looking at every team’s offseason moves and draft picks, as well as the schedule quirks. That’s enough small talk. Here are my highly anticipated picks for every team’s win-loss over/under — with six best bets. All betting lines, from BetMGM, are as of the time the pick was made and subject to change.Best betsLions over 10.5 (-130)There has been a lot of talk the past two years about the Lions’ window closing, and maybe it is … but there are reasons to be excited about this window. They threw play caller John Morton out of it. Receiver Jameson Williams is poised to put up bigger numbers for the third straight year, as coaches and insiders say he has had his best offseason. Detroit’s defense is better than you think it is, as it can stop the run, and the pass rush is improved. As shocking as the scandal surrounding Terrion Arnold is, the 2024 first-round pick had not played that well, and the Lions could be better without him.Their schedule looks like a vacation resort brochure, as they face the NFC South, Jets, Cardinals, Dolphins and Titans after finishing fourth in the NFC North last season.Should Detroit Lions be considered favorites to win NFC North?Robert Mays and Derrik KlassenPatriots under 10.5 (-145)I have no idea what to expect from A.J. Brown, and anybody who says they do is lying. I do know this: The Patriots’ schedule is a lot tougher than it was last year, Stefon Diggs and K’Lavon Chaisson will be missed, and left tackle Will Campbell has a huge target on his jersey now.Bengals under 10.5 (+115)We interrupt all the buzzing about the bounce-back Bengals to ask a quick question: When was the last time they won more than nine games? 2022. Joe Burrow is indeed back and he’s great, yada, yada, yada, and the defense can’t be as bad as it was last year. Well … maybe the secondary can … and the linebackers. It’s still all on Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and they’ve been good for nine wins per season of late.Vikings under 8.5 (-110)Kyler Murray is poised to have an MVP-type season under Kevin O’Connell. I swear I read that somewhere, and even AI laughed when it saw that.Look, I get it. If I were competing against J.J. McCarthy, there would be buzz about the overweight sidearmer from Hayward rising up fantasy draft boards. But Murray was an enigma in his seven years with the Cardinals, and it will be interesting to see how long he is motivated with the Vikings. Also, the running backs are uninspiring, and the defense is going to really miss Jonathan Greenard.Giants over 7.5 (-110)I like to avoid crowds the older I get, but there’s no getting away from (blows trumpet) the most popular season-total bet of them all. Offensive guru Brian Daboll was pretty incompetent as the Giants’ coach and hit the bricks, and in walks Super Bowl winning coach John Harbaugh. He is going to have to tone down Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo — and hope Malik Nabers is back to full strength — but Harbaugh did bring along tight end Isaiah Likely to help.Harbaugh is also being gifted a nasty pass rush on defense. A big reason why I like this one so much is I also plan to get down on Abdul Carter at 50-1 as Defensive Player of the Year. He had more maturity issues than sacks (four) as a rookie last season, but the 18 QB hits and 66 pressures were impressive.Titans under 6.5 (-115)I don’t quite see it yet with Cam Ward, the key word being “yet,” and I think Robert Saleh is going to regret not staying with the 49ers another season and waiting for a better job to open up next year.AFCRavens over 11.5 (+115)This seems like a big number with new coach Jesse Minter inheriting some old, squeaky parts. But Lamar Jackson is still a top-five quarterback, and last I checked, QBs are pretty important. He has a new coordinator, but that’s never affected Jackson before. The offense is going to score points (get Zay Flowers in fantasy) and Trey Hendrickson will give the defense a boost. Plus, I picked division rivals Bengals and Steelers to go under their numbers, so …Bills under 10.5 (+120)The Bills are going to regret replacing Sean McDermott with Joe Brady, and right out of the shoot, too, with their first five games coming against the Texans, Lions, Chargers, Patriots and Chargers. They also have a tough holiday stretch, with games on both Thanksgiving and Christmas sandwiched around road games against the Patriots and Packers and a home game against the Bears.I will be wrong if new receiver DJ Moore clicks (and if they ever find a decent off-ball linebacker), but there is nothing in Moore’s resume or the Bills’ history of acquiring receivers to suggest that will be the case.Joe Brady faces plenty of pressure in his first year as head coach. (Michael Reaves / Getty Images)Chargers under 9.5 (+115)This one looks too easy at first glance. The Chargers won 11 games in each of the past two seasons and have brought in offensive guru (a nicer way of saying failed head coach) Mike McDaniel to finally unleash Justin Herbert. But the schedule is a killer. Starting in Week 3, the Chargers play this seven-game stretch: at Bills, at Seahawks, vs. Broncos, at Chiefs, at Rams, vs. Texans, at Ravens. The Chargers also have a whopping seven games with a rest disadvantage, with four opponents coming off a bye, and their overall 24 days of rest disadvantage is one of the worst we’ve seen in a long time.Chiefs over 10.5 (+115)All signs point to the Chiefs changing their offense and giving Kenneth Walker III all those carries he never got with the Seahawks. It makes sense with their star quarterback sporting a knee brace and their best receiver having just served 30 days in jail. There is still some talent here, and the Chiefs’ coaching staff is good enough to get them to 11 wins and the playoffs.Jaguars over 8.5 (+120)I don’t love the Jaguars taking a nap this offseason and not building off last season’s success, and if you said Liam Coen was due for some humbling in Year 2, I wouldn’t argue. And the schedule is brutal. The price for “hosting” back-to-back games in London is a 10-game closing stretch with seven road games, two on a short week. But … 8.5 wins. They won 13 last season, have a mean defensive line and Trevor Lawrence was finally that guy — he had 15 touchdowns and one interception over the final six regular-season games, all wins.Texans over 9.5 (-140)People underestimate the Texans every year, and I always cash the over. Are there still questions about the offensive line and C.J. Stroud? Sure. But the defense is nasty, and I think the acquisition of running back David Montgomery was one of the most underrated moves of the offseason.Broncos under 9.5 (+105)The Broncos have improved in each of their three seasons under Sean Payton and won 14 games last season. So, this is quite a drop. Especially after adding Jaylen Waddle. What gives? People are banking on a slow start, with quarterback Bo Nix coming back from ankle surgery and an opening slate of the Chiefs, Jaguars, Rams, 49ers, Chargers and Seahawks. This is probably a pass, but the boss cracks the whip and demands I pick a side.Steelers over 8.5 (+115)It’s not the sexiest storyline, but the Steelers are shooting for their 20th straight non-losing season, but this time without Mike Tomlin. Aaron Rodgers, 42, decided he wanted to come back, and the Steelers aren’t a serious organization, so they said sure. There is enough defensive talent here, and I really like the addition of Michael Pittman Jr., so congratulations to Pittsburgh. Nine wins and they’re irrelevant once again.Colts under 7.5 (+105)I sound like a broken record — wait, does anyone know what records are anymore? — but GM Chris Ballard is somehow back for a 10th year. The Colts are coming off back to back 8-9 seasons and have had four winning seasons under Ballard. He seemed to get a winning lottery card in Daniel Jones last year, but the card was damaged, and the possible playoff payoff was put on hold.I pick the Colts under every season and cash in, and though the number is down to 7.5 this year, I am not scared after Ballard gave Alec Pierce $114 million. Was Daniel Jones declining before season-ending injury in 2025?Robert MaysRaiders under 5.5 (+130)This is the second-most bet over, but we can’t quite get there. We think the Raiders will go with Kirk Cousins (who turns 38 next month) awhile before turning it over to Fernando Mendoza (take the under on his 2400.5 passing yards), and expect them to trade Maxx Crosby before the deadline. The receiving corps (Tre Tucker, Jalen Nailor and Jack Bech) is bottom-five in the league and will allow defenses to use bracket coverage on Brock Bowers. And the interior defensive line is still a little mushy. But buck up Raiders fans: I do think they are headed in the right direction this time!Browns over 5.5 (-120)I have no faith in Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders, but I like the rest of the offense, and there is still some defensive talent even after the Myles Garrett trade. The main reason to take the over is the Browns are starting to stack great draft classes, and that’s rare in this league.Jets under 5.5 (-110)The Raiders brought in Geno Smith last year, coasted to the No. 1 pick and drafted Mendoza, The Jets obviously sat up and paid attention, as they would like to draft Arch Manning next year. So they threw Geno a welcome parade. The defense will have to be better — cough, it had zero interceptions last year — and a few of the veterans will have some pride and win a game here and there, but six seems way too high for a team with a front office that has no interest in winning this year and a lame duck coach.Dolphins over 4.5 (+110)Poor Malik Willis. He takes his talents to South Beach, and then the Dolphins gut the roster. New play caller Bobby Slowik can’t be as bad as he was in Houston thanks to elite running back De’Von Achane, an underrated offensive line, a running quarterback and a Miami heat that wears down defenses. We’re going to need to sweep the Jets, but yeah, take the over.NFCRams under 11.5 (+115)The popular Super Bowl winner pick (they’re at 5-1 now, down from 9-1), the Rams had a great offseason even before adding Garrett, the best defensive player in the league. Cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson were major acquisitions. Could Aaron Donald be next? But the schedule (Australia, holiday games, seven prime-time games, bad rest differential) is brutal, Matthew Stafford is 38 and their special teams unit will trick away another game or two. It’s 11 or 12 wins, and we’re going 11.Seahawks over 10.5 (-125)Mike Macdonald, Nick Emmanwori and Byron Murphy II are only going to get better, and even with the loss of Walker and the tough schedule (four games against the Rams and 49ers, plus the AFC West), the Seahawks cruise to 12 wins.Eagles over 10.5 (+120)We might never know what happened between Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown, but all fantasy owners care about is whether tiny DeVonta Smith can survive as the new No. 1 wideout. We’re not so sure — same with the immediate impact of rookie receiver Makai Lemon — but those are more playoff-success type questions. There is too much talent on both sides of the ball not to win 11 games, especially if Hurts bounces back under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion to prove that he is not the problem.49ers over 9.5 (-155)The 49ers obviously had a lot of injuries last season, and while Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, George Kittle and 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams are all back, they also added Mike Evans. What people still overlook is that quarterback Brock Purdy is pretty good — he recorded a league-high 67.3 percent of his throws past the sticks on third down. The 49ers are in the league’s toughest division, but if we squint our eyes, we could see a three-way tie.Packers under 9.5 (+105)The Packers seemingly underachieve every year. They lost a couple of receivers, and defensive star Micah Parsons is still recovering from his knee injury. Jordan Love will have a handful of great games like he always does, and the defense will be decent enough to get us to … nine. It’s going to be close, but you won’t be able to say cheese.Bears over 9.5 (+105)Caleb Williams took his first L this year after an impressive run last season, as the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office refused the quarterback’s application to trademark “Iceman.” Luckily, the Bears will be on ice a lot this year, as they’ll match last season’s 11 wins thanks in part to having the largest net rest edge on the schedule with plus-15 days. Not to mention receiver Luther Burden and tight end Colston Loveland will take big leaps in Year 2.Is Luther Burden ready to go 'nuclear' for Chicago Bears?Robert MaysCowboys under 9.5 (-125)If rookie safety Caleb Downs is a star, which is possible, we’re going to lose this one. Same goes if George Pickens isn’t a distraction all season long. The cornerbacks aren’t very good, and the offense is never as good as it should be. The Cowboys tried to address their defense and will improve on back-to-back seven-win seasons, but let’s not go wild.Buccaneers under 8.5 (-130)Evans jumping ship after 12 seasons, despite the Buccaneers offering more money than the 49ers did, should sound off alarms. Maybe he knows Baker Mayfield can no longer hold up for a full season at age 31. Mayfield was hobbling with knee, arm and elbow injuries last season, and though he hasn’t missed a game in three years, his toughness overshadows his effectiveness down the stretch. Maybe Evans knows Todd Bowles is just a .500 coach (35-33 with Tampa Bay). That said, I love rookie pass rusher Rueben Bain Jr., and the division is still wide open, so a one-game improvement and nine wins is definitely possible.Baker Mayfield played through a series of injuries last season. (Ronald Martinez / Getty Images)Falcons under 6.5 (+115)I am not a Kevin Stefanski guy — when were the Browns ever good on offense? — and there is an image of Garrett rolling his eyes at a Stefanski speech that lives rent free in my head. The offensive guru is probably excited about working with Bijan Robinson and Drake London, but Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa not so much. The defense overachieved last season to win eight games, and it doesn’t seem wise to count on that again. This might be a sneaky bottom-five roster talent-wise.Panthers over 7.5 (+110)Bryce Young. He any good? (Flips coin.) Yup. The Panthers got to eight wins to win the league’s worst division last year, going 6-2 in games decided by a field goal or less. They’ve added Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd to the defense … hey, maybe this should have been a best bet.Commanders over 7.5 (-130)Washington won 12 games in 2024, when everything went right, and five games last year, when nothing did. So with Dan Quinn still inspiring the troops and Jayden Daniels healthy again, that makes the Commanders an 8.5-win team on average. Boom. Take the over. (This assumes they make some moves in the next month to add a receiver and a defensive back, because surely they have looked at their roster.)Saints over 7.5 (-125)Tyler Shough will have some growing pains, but I like the running back tandem of Travis Etienne Jr. and Alvin Kamara, the receiver duo of Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson and the offensive line. The defensive line was underrated even before the return of Cam Jordan for one last hurrah. And people forget how good defensive guru Brandon Staley was/is.Cardinals over 3.5 (-145)My Cardinals pick is so bad, lol. The schedule is impossible. They are going to be 0-3 after starting out against the Chargers, Seahawks and 49ers, and maybe 0-6 after hitting the road to play the Giants and hosting the Lions and Rams. But while I don’t believe in drafting running backs early, I think Jeremiyah Love is a Day 1 star — though the Cardinals flushed a third-rounder when they took Carson Beck — and there is some sneaky talent on the roster, especially on defense (Walter Nolen, Will Johnson). The quest for a fourth win will come down to the wire, as the Cardinals finish up against the Jets, Saints, Raiders and 49ers, who might be resting old players in the finale.
