Pearl Studio‘s animated comedy “All Wishes Come True!” will expand into international markets this summer following its July 24 China debut.
Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea will get the film first, on Aug. 13, with the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland and the Netherlands following on Aug. 14. Belgium and Luxembourg round out the rollout on Sept. 4.
Pearl Studio, whose credits include “Kung Fu Panda 3,” “Abominable” and Oscar nominee “Over the Moon,” produced the film alongside CMC Pictures. It is written and directed by Mu Zhengyang and produced by Cao Linlin.
“All Wishes Come True!” reimagines the Chinese folk tale “The Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea” as a mythological comedy. The story follows eight ordinary mortals, beginning with Lü Dongbin and Zhongli Quan, who disguise themselves as immortals in a bid to break into a legendary vault. Along the way, they recruit six more companions – He Xiangu, Tieguai Li, Han Xiangzi, Cao Guojiu, Lan Caihe and Zhang Guolao – and confront a conspiracy that threatens the balance between the mortal and immortal worlds.
Su Hang, who won a Hong Kong Film Award for “The Shadow’s Edge,” designed the film’s action sequences, while Chen Hao, whose credits include “Ne Zha,” directed the voice cast.
