The EastEnders set has been broken into by a YouTube streamer for the third time in six years.An “urban explorer” YouTuber named Mr Airborne, who has more than 34,000 subscribers on the site, this week uploaded a video in which he could be seen scaling a fence and accessing the set, which is located at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.The YouTuber then proceeded to walk around the show’s Albert Square set, entering the Queen Vic pub and the newsagent known as The Minute Mart. He also could be seen briefly wearing one of the show’s costumes after walking into the Square’s fish and chip shop.By the end of the video, Mr Airborne is spotted by security and chased away, leading him to re-climb the fence and flee.Shockingly, Mr Airborne also revealed that this was not the first time he had trespassed onto the EastEnders set, claiming that he previously did so four years ago. He added that he didn’t “get anything good” while broadcasting the incident live, “so this time I’m going to pre-record it”.In a disclaimer, the YouTuber said that he made the video for “entertainment and documentary purposes” and urged viewers to “respect private property and never trespass or attempt to recreate what you see in this video”.A spokesperson for the BBC told The Independent that “we never comment on security matters”.BBC soap ‘EastEnders’ is set in Walford (Jack Barnes/BBC)It is unclear how often the Albert Square set has been invaded by trespassers, but there have been at least two previous reports this decade on break-ins by individuals who filmed their exploits and published the footage online.In 2021, a YouTube prank duo broke onto the set and climbed on top of the Queen Vic before being found and pursued by security guards.A year earlier, during lockdown, a trio of streamers also broke onto the set and later uploaded their footage to YouTube under the title: “Sneaking Into the EastEnders Film Set! Security guards managed to find them and chase them away.Going back even further, police were called to the set in 2009 after security guards found a hole in a fence at Elstree Studios, leading to suspicion that a break-in had occurred.In 2024, the BBC agreed to sell the Elstree Centre, where the show is filmed, to the insurance company Axa. The deal meant the show would continue to be filmed at Elstree, even though the 16-acre site is owned by other hands. The sale was due to the BBC seeking to find £500m in annual savings.However, the long-running TV soap will continue to be filmed on-site as the BBC has also agreed to lease back Albert Square for the next 25 years.It came only two years after the BBC finished rebuilding the EastEnders set at Elstree, at a total cost of £87m. That figure was reportedly £27m over budget and the rebuild was completed four years late.
