The Idoma Association United States of America has slammed the Nigerian government for failing to protect the people of Benue South Senatorial District from a sustained campaign of killings by suspected armed herdsmen, demanding President Bola Tinubu’s immediate deployment of military forces to the area.
In an open letter addressed to President Tinubu, the diaspora group noted that hundreds of Idoma people have been killed over the past decade in repeated attacks across several local government areas in Benue State, despite prior intelligence reportedly made available to security agencies.
The letter, signed by the President of the Idoma Association USA, Edwin Ochai, and its Secretary, Sylvester Onche Steno, commended Tinubu for ordering the rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, but argued that similar urgency has not been shown toward the security crisis in Idoma land.
