The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is considering carrying out a comprehensive audit of its electoral technology systems and staging a mock presidential election as part of efforts to address concerns raised during the 2023 general elections and improve preparations for the 2027 polls.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), disclosed this on Thursday while receiving the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, during a courtesy visit to the Commission's headquarters in Abuja.

According to Amupitan, the proposals were being considered by the Commission as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening public confidence in Nigeria's electoral process.

He said INEC was exploring the possibility of conducting a full audit of all its election technology infrastructure before the 2027 general election, alongside a nationwide mock presidential election to test the efficiency and reliability of its systems ahead of the actual polls
