UAE citizens can now renew their Emirates ID up to one year before expiry, doubling the previous six-month renewal window.

The updated rules, announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, came into effect on Tuesday, July 14.

When passport and Emirates ID expiry dates coincide, citizens can now renew both documents in a single transaction.

The Emirates ID, established in 2006, is mandatory for all citizens and residents, required for banking, driving licences and government services.
