Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche finally agreed to meet with sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein’s accusers, and all it took was a Republican senator threatening not to support Blanche’s bid to lead the Department of Justice.Blanche, who was Donald Trump’s lawyer during his hush money conviction, has been criticized for his handling of the Epstein scandal, which involved the Trump administration’s transfer of convicted sex offender and Epstein co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell to a lower-security prison in 2025.A group of Epstein survivors asked senators not to confirm Blanche to the AG position earlier this week. One of them, Dani Bensky, blasted Blanche on Thursday for reportedly spending nine hours with Maxwell before moving her to a nicer prison while ignoring Epstein’s victims altogether, according to Mediaite. As a result, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) told the Senate Judiciary Committee he would not vote to confirm Blanche for attorney general unless he actually met with survivors.Although Blanche claimed on Wednesday that he was “prohibited from meeting directly” with the women, he changed his tune quickly after Tillis’ ultimatum and met with them on Thursday afternoon.“I never said I can’t meet with them. I said if they were represented, I had to meet through counsel,” Blanche said, according to ABC News. “But of course, I can meet with them. I’m the acting attorney general of the United States, so yes, I can.”After the meeting, Bensky issued a press release claiming that Blanche had “treated the meeting as a mere ‘check-the-box’ exercise intended to secure votes for his confirmation,” and “danced around his wording, repeatedly interrupted us and could not commit to anything that would demonstrate good faith or begin to restore trust.”She also said Blanche did not “adequately account for the release of materials that exposed survivors’ identifying information and images” and “offered no credible plan to investigate and pursue accountability” beyond Epstein and Maxwell.“I hope Senator Tillis will recognize that this meeting was insufficient. Todd Blanche is not qualified to serve as attorney general. I urge Senator Tillis and every member of the Senate to vote no on his confirmation.”
