Fashion industry leaders have said Africa is not short of creative talent but needs greater access to world-class training, infrastructure and commercial opportunities to build globally competitive fashion businesses.
They spoke on the graduation of the first cohort of the Fashion Incubator Scholarship Programme at the Ananse Centre for Design in Lagos, where more than 30 aspiring fashion entrepreneurs completed vocational training designed to equip them with technical and business skills.
The graduation, held recently at the Ananse Centre for Design in Ikate, Lekki, featured a runway showcase of collections designed and produced by the participants.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ananse Africa, Sam Mensah, said the initiative was created to close the gap between talent and opportunity in Africa’s fashion industry.
