Members of the All Progressives Congress in Akoko South-West Constituency 1 of Ondo State have protested against the exclusion of a former representative of the constituency in the state House of Assembly, Mr Gbenga Omole, from the list of the House of Assembly candidates of the state.
It was gathered that the National Working Committee of the party had sent the names of the 26 state assembly candidates of the party to the Independent National Electoral Commission, but Omole’s name was missing.
The aggrieved APC members who converged on Oka Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government, to stage the protest, claimed that Omole won the APC primaries held in May but was being replaced by another aspirant.
Speaking during the protest, a party leader, Mr Christopher Omolorun, said the meeting was convened following reports of a move to substitute Omole’s name at the national level, describing the development as unacceptable.
He warned that any attempt to substitute the winner of the primaries could spark disaffection within the party.
