Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and her Uzbek counterpart Ozodbek Nazarbekov discussed ways to strengthen cultural cooperation between the two countries during a meeting in Athens on Thursday.
Nazarbekov is in Greece for a three-day visit, with talks held in a “cordial and constructive atmosphere,” according to the Greek Culture Ministry. The meeting highlighted the historical and cultural links between Greece and Uzbekistan, with particular reference to the long-standing connections between the Greek world and Central Asia, as well as the role of Greek diaspora communities in preserving cultural heritage and historical memory.
Mendoni said cooperation could expand through exchanges of experts and the sharing of know-how and best practices in protecting, restoring, documenting and managing cultural heritage. The two ministers also discussed closer collaboration between museums, exhibition exchanges and joint cultural projects.
Nazarbekov proposed an exhibition on Alexander the Great focusing on the daily life and art of his era, as well as exploring the possibility of a joint film production on the ancient Greek warrior-king.
