The CPI(M) State secretariat has slammed the State government for agreeing to reconstitute the Waqf Board in accordance with what it described as the “BJP’s communal agenda.”It was evident that the State government adopted a favourable stand in court on reconstituting the board as part of a pact with the BJP, the CPI(M) State secretariat said in a statement here. “By taking such a stand, the UDF government has betrayed the minorities and the secular society of the State and it stands exposed,” it said.The government’s stand was in keeping with the demand raised in a petition filed by BJP State vice-president Shone George, the CPI(M) said. “The Sangh Parivar agenda is evident in every policy decision that the UDF government has made on coming to power,” the CPI(M) alleged.When the LDF government was in power, the Assembly had unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Union government to withdraw the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, it said. The CPI(M) asked whether the UDF partners, including the IUML, agreed to the State government’s present stand. They should clarify their position to the people, it said.It became evident what the law amendment was for when the Waqf Board was reconstituted in Madhya Pradesh with BJP leader Sanwar Patel as its chairperson.
