Mykhailo Fedorov is credited with giving Kyiv a military edge on drones

There are growing concerns in Brussels about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decision to remove his tech-savvy defence minister in a government reshuffle, despite his impressive track record on drone warfare.

Ukraine’s president on Wednesday removed Mykhailo Fedorov, who was appointed only six months ago, after the 35-year-old minister clashed with Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi over military priorities and defence procurement.

The news came as a “big surprise,” said Andrius Kubilius, the EU’s defence commissioner, who suggested he may seek clarifications on the reasons behind Fedorov’s dismissal.

“We were working with him in a very good way,” the commissioner told Euractiv.
