Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairperson of New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), has expressed confidence that the port will achieve its target of handling 53 million tonnes (mt) of cargo during 2026-27.Addressing a gathering as part of the Annual Awards Nite 2025-26 in Mangaluru on Wednesday, he said the port handled 50 mt of cargo during 2025-26, the highest ever in the history of NMPA.He attributed this achievement to the support and partnership of exporters, importers, shipping lines, terminal operators, Customs, logistics service providers, transporters, stevedores, Customs House Agents (CHAs) and all stakeholders, describing them as the true partners behind the port’s success.He hoped that NMPA would achieve its target of 53 mt during 2026-27 and further improve its standing among India’s major ports.He emphasised that modernisation, mechanisation, digitalisation, capacity augmentation and ease of doing business are the key drivers for Indian maritime sector. NMPA is actively working to strengthen infrastructure, improve draft availability, enhance liner shipping connectivity and develop new cargo streams to unlock the port’s full potential.Stressing the importance of stakeholder feedback in decision-making, he called for continued partnership to position NMPA among the country’s leading ports and a globally competitive container hub.The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards to outstanding performers across various categories, recognising excellence among importers, exporters, terminal operators, shipping agents, stevedores, CHAs, logistics partners and other port users for their contribution towards the port’s performance during 2025-26.Published on July 16, 2026
