Latvia will donate SENTINEL radars to Lithuania to strengthen the country’s NASAMS medium-range air defence systems, Lithuania’s Defence Ministry said Thursday.
The ministry said Latvia had decided to transfer the radars free of charge after a proposal from the United States. According to the ministry, Latvia uses alternative systems to meet its air defence needs.
Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas thanked Latvia and the United States for their cooperation in strengthening regional security.
“The SENTINEL radars will provide more precise detection and tracking of aerial targets, increasing the effectiveness of our NASAMS air defence systems,” Kaunas said in a statement.
The ministry did not specify how many radars would be transferred or when they would be delivered.
