Official state media in the Islamic Republic reported the evacuation of Shahid Baghaei Hospital in Ahvaz and the transfer of its patients to other medical facilities following US airstrikes near the hospital.

The state-run IRNA news agency reported that the hospital was evacuated “to protect the lives of patients” following US strikes on surrounding areas. According to the news agency, the shockwaves from the explosions affected the hospital, and the facility has been “temporarily taken out of service,” though no casualties have been reported so far.

Voliollah Hayati, the Deputy Governor of Khuzestan Province for Security and Law Enforcement, also announced early Thursday morning, July 16, that the US targeted areas near Baghaei Hospital in Ahvaz on Wednesday evening, July 15. According to Hayati, these strikes prompted the temporary evacuation of the hospital and the transfer of children with cancer to other medical centers in the city.

The Ahvaz University of Medical Sciences issued a statement confirming that, following the explosions near Baghaei 2 Hospital, a specialized center for hematology and oncology, the facility has been temporarily taken out of service to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
